High School Drama Students commenting on what matters most to them at OSD
Our school was selected to participate in the BBC World Assembly Day and we were asked the question, “What matters to you as a school?” Our students were eloquent, passionate and represented us well:
Here is our school’s high school drama class telling you about what matters most to us at Oregon School for the Deaf in America. It all boils down to have accessible communication at Oregon School for the Deaf and for us that means using American Sign Language. ASL is our mode of communication while we learn to read and write in English. As you can see, the students treasure and value this component of our school so much more than the other ways they have been educated in their lives. It’s truly our way to express ourselves – no matter what degree of hearing loss – we rarely focus on a person’s deficit, but rather we celebrate and honor what everyone can do at our school and that is SIGN!
