ASL for Families
The American Sign Language for Families Learning Community is designed for families with deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired children and youth. The class is geared towards establishing fluent communication whether a family uses ASL without speech or ASL signs with spoken language. School staff members who work with Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired students may register if space is available. Three ability levels are offered on the same night - Level 101, and 201. An Intermediate Conversation group may be offered beginning in January. There is a companion children's program that teaches ASL available at no extra cost for students' children from birth through 5th grade. Middle School and High School students may attend with their families.
The ASL for Families Learning Community meets Thursdays 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Fall 2014 term classes start Thursday, September 18 and end Thursday, December 11. Each class runs 12 weeks and the cost is $25 per person. Level 101 students purchase a book for $25 and families may share one book.
